A Cosmetic Acupuncturist’s Favorite Sunscreens
People often ask me what my favorite sunscreens are, and I have to be honest:
Like all skincare, sunscreen is an individual choice, and you’ll likely have to experiment to figure out what products work best for your skin.
So here are a few personal favorites of mine, depending on your needs and budget.
Favorite Facial Sunscreens
I love this sunscreen because I find it actually makes my skin better with regular use. I’ve especially noticed slight improvements in texture and hyperpigmentation. I’m a huge, huge fan, and I get worried when I’m about to run out.
Another one of my favorites, I love how this mineral-based sunscreen disappears into the skin and doesn’t leave that mineral-cast.
Favorite Tinted Sunscreen
Marie Veronique Tinted Sunscreen
I’ll be honest with you—this is an odd product, but I can’t stop buying it. The texture is a little gritty, and you really need to use it over a facial oil for it to work. That said, I love the way my skin looks when I use it, and the pearl powder is such a nice ingredient. It’s probably not my first choice for a beach day, but for everyday sun care in San Francisco, it might work for you. I love wearing this over Laurel’s Sun Serum on sunny days.
Favorites for Beach Days
MD Solar Sciences Mineral Creme
This is what I reach for when I’m going to the beach, hiking, or going to be in the sun a long time. It’s also more affordable than the other sunscreens listed, and a tube lasts for awhile. Yes, it might have a bit of a slight cast to it, but it’s effective and recommended. I wore this as my daily sunscreen for a long time before finding the ones above.
Babo Naturals Supershield Sunscreen Spray
Ok, this sunscreen is another good one for bodies when you’re going out to the beach or need some full-body coverage. I also use this on my kids!
Final Thoughts
I also really recommend a great, full coverage hat :-)
I hope this introduces some options you might not have considered. And if these don’t seem right, I often recommend my San Francisco facial acupuncture clients head to Rainbow Grocery or Ayla Beauty to try some samples, and see if there’s something that might work great for you.
I hope this helps!
