My Favorite Skincare Protocol for Barrier Repair

Hi! I was talking with some clients recently about damaged skin from cosmetic interventions. Unfortunately, I do see this in practice, whether it’s from lasers, harsh medications, or other interventions. I’ve also seen skin barrier repair necessary in cases of perioral dermatitis or rosacea when the skin is burning, hot, and red.

Often you’ll know your skin barrier needs repair because you’re dealing with flaky skin, scabbing, stubborn pigmentation, or other issues. Your skin might be sensitive to most products, and it can feel really exhausting figuring out what to do—especially if the issues are showing up on your face. If your skin is burning, something is definitely going on.

In these cases, I recommend a really simple protocol: calendula hydrosol followed by jojoba oil. Spray the calendula on your skin, then follow with the jojoba oil.

That’s it.

You can use the jojoba oil as a cleanser beforehand, if you wish.

And if you’re looking for a really elegant version, try Laurel Skin’s Calendula Hydrosol followed by their Essential Lipids. You can also use their Essential Lipids as a cleanser.

Try to minimize makeup and use mineral sunscreens as needed, but otherwise let your skin heal.

Sometimes you don’t need a complicated protocol—just something simple to give your skin the space it needs to repair itself.
